Terms and Conditions

As an “Adopter” you will pay a donation sum. This donation will be applied to prepare more animals for adoption, and is therefore not refundable. The undersigned Adopter agrees to be bound by the following terms and conditions: Please initial space provided by each paragraph.

Care Expectations for Your Pet

Adopter agrees to provide, at their own expense, proper and sufficient food, fresh water, appropriate shelter, enrichment, routine veterinary care, vaccinations as recommended by a veterinarian, and any medical care reasonably necessary to maintain the health and well-being of the cat/kitten.

Adopter agrees to provide the cat/kitten with a clean and sanitary living environment, appropriate litter boxes, opportunities for exercise and play, social interaction, and appropriate mental stimulation.

Adopter agrees to seek prompt veterinary attention if the cat/kitten becomes sick or injured and to provide any ongoing or emergency medical care reasonably necessary for the cat/kitten’s health and welfare.

Adopter accepts financial responsibility for the cat/kitten’s routine, preventative, emergency, and ongoing veterinary care following completion of the adoption.

The cat/kitten shall not be declawed. Adopter understands that declawing is not simply removal of the claws; it involves amputation of the last bone of each affected toe and may result in pain or other short- or long-term complications. Adopter agrees to use humane alternatives for managing scratching behavior, including appropriate scratching surfaces, regular nail trimming, nail caps when appropriate, behavioral modification, or other veterinarian-recommended alternatives.

Adopter agrees to comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws relating to the care, treatment, and welfare of the cat/kitten.

Pet Safety

The cat/kitten is being adopted as an indoor companion animal and shall be kept indoors. Adopter agrees to take reasonable precautions to prevent the cat/kitten from escaping or roaming outdoors unsupervised.

If the cat/kitten is permitted outdoors, it must be appropriately supervised and safely secured, such as within a properly enclosed catio or by use of a secure, properly fitted harness and leash. Allowing the cat/kitten to roam freely outdoors is not permitted.

Adopter agrees to provide a safe living environment and to take reasonable precautions to protect the cat/kitten from foreseeable hazards, including open or unsecured windows and doors, toxic plants and substances, unsafe temperatures, traffic, dangerous animals, and other conditions that could reasonably cause injury or death.

Carriers, crates, or temporary enclosures must be appropriately sized, secure, and used humanely. The cat/kitten will not be routinely confined for excessive periods as a substitute for appropriate housing, exercise, social interaction, or care.

Adopter is responsible for maintaining appropriate identification for the cat/kitten and keeping all microchip registration and contact information current.

Return or Rehoming of Cat/Kitten

Failure to comply with any material term of this Adoption Agreement constitutes a breach of the Agreement. Adopter agrees to provide the Cat/Kitten with humane and responsible care consistent with the requirements outlined in this Agreement.

The Cat/Kitten may not be abandoned, surrendered to a shelter or pound, sold, given away, or otherwise transferred to another person or organization without first contacting Belly Rub N Grub. If, at any time following completion of the adoption, the Adopter is unable or unwilling to continue caring for the Cat/Kitten, the Adopter agrees to contact Belly Rub N Grub before transferring, surrendering, selling, abandoning, or otherwise rehoming the Cat/Kitten.

Belly Rub N Grub shall be given the first opportunity to accept the surrender of the Cat/Kitten or, when appropriate, assist the Adopter in arranging a suitable and responsible placement.

The Adopter acknowledges that, upon completion of the adoption, ownership and responsibility for the Cat/Kitten transfer to the Adopter. Nothing in this provision shall be construed as Belly Rub N Grub retaining or reacquiring ownership, possession, custody, or control of the Cat/Kitten following completion of the adoption, unless and until the Adopter voluntarily surrenders the Cat/Kitten to Belly Rub N Grub and such surrender is accepted by Belly Rub N Grub.

If Belly Rub N Grub accepts the voluntary surrender and return of the Cat/Kitten, a $150 surrender fee per animal will apply. This fee helps offset the costs associated with accepting an animal back into rescue, including intake, evaluation, veterinary care, food, housing, transportation, and efforts to locate an appropriate new placement.

Belly Rub N Grub may, at its discretion, reduce or waive the surrender fee when circumstances warrant such consideration. An Adopter requesting a reduction or waiver may be required to provide reasonable documentation supporting the circumstances presented. Documentation may include, when applicable, records or other reasonable evidence relating to a significant medical emergency, death, or other circumstance that materially affects the Adopter's ability to continue caring for the Cat/Kitten. The submission of documentation or a request for a reduction or waiver does not guarantee that the surrender fee will be reduced or waived. Belly Rub N Grub will determine whether and to what extent the fee may be reduced or waived based on the individual circumstances and supporting documentation provided.

The surrender fee is separate from the original adoption fee. Surrendering or returning the Cat/Kitten does not automatically entitle the Adopter to a refund of the original adoption fee, except to the extent a refund is otherwise required by applicable law.

Adopter agrees to promptly notify Belly Rub N Grub of circumstances involving serious neglect, abandonment, or an inability to provide appropriate care for the Cat/Kitten so that reasonable steps may be taken to protect the animal's health and welfare.

Health & Temperament

Adopter is fully aware that the agency makes no guarantees whatsoever as to the health, temperament, mental disposition and training of the Cat/Kitten. We can tell you what we know, with our knowledge and experience with the Cat/Kitten . Adopter understands that adopting a Cat/Kitten, the Cat/Kitten will need training, patience and time to adjust. Adopter is agreeing to help this Cat/Kitten fit into their family and give him/her time to adjust and acclimate. Returning the Cat/Kitten will cause harm to the Cat/Kitten ability to adjust again.

Tags and Micro-chips

The Cat/Kitten must wear a breakaway collar and an information tag at all times. I tag must be purchased upon adoption and the microchip must be registered with www.petkey.org. Belly Rub N Grub 501(c)3 animal rescue must be listed as an additional contact on the microchip. If the microchip is from another company due to rehoming from original owner, it must be registered with that company also. (AVID, Home again etc).

72-Hour Pet Retrieval

If the Cat/Kitten for any reason is at a shelter and is not claimed within 3 days by his/her owner, the owner will pay Belly Rub N Grub 501(c)3 $500 to go to the shelter and claim the Cat/Kitten. This fee will be paid within 7 days. The Cat/Kitten will not be returned to owner, if Belly Rub N Grub 501(c)3 animal rescue claims it.

Initial Here ______

Home Check

Adopter is aware that the adoption is not final until a home check has been completed and Belly Rub N Grub 501(c)3 animal rescue has approved the home. A home check will be within 3 weeks of adoption. Puppies under 4 months old may have a second home check. Ignoring Belly Rub N Grub 501(c)3 animal rescue calls and attempts to perform a home check will result in Belly Rub N Grub confiscating the cat/kitten. The adoption fee will not be returned.
